Electronics Recycling Event - Park Slope

The Lower East Side Ecology Center will hold an Electronics Recycling event on Saturday, December 6, 2008 between 10AM and 4PM at PS321, 7th Avenue between 1st and 2nd Streets.

Discarded computers and electronics are toxic hazardous waste and make up a lot of the heavy metals in landfills: lead, mercury, cadmium, etc. A fraction of a teaspoon of mercury can contaminate 20 acres of a lake, making the fish unfit to eat. In New York City, an estimated 34,000 tons of electronic equipment get tossed into the trash every year. Computer monitors and televisions with picture tubes are especially dangerous, because of the amount of lead they contain.

Dispose of your unwanted electronics the environmentally responsible way, by taking it to the e-waste recycling center.

The Lower East Side Ecology Center started its community-based e-waste recycling program in 2002 and is committed to offer e-waste recycling days throughout the year and in all five boroughs. You can help them out by making a tax deductible donation: Here's their website
